Hello, and welcome.
If you have found your way here, you likely share the same appreciation I do for things that are made, not just manufactured.
Begat Woodcraft is a one-person artisan studio here in the UK. There is no production line, no conveyor belt, and no team of assistants. It is just me, the lathe, and a block of timber waiting to reveal its character.
I started this journey because I believe in the meeting point between nature’s raw beauty and human craftsmanship. There is a specific feeling you get when you hold a piece of burr wood that has been turned, polished, and finished by hand. It has weight. It has warmth. It has a story.
Real Hands, Real Stories
In a world of mass production, I stand for authenticity. Every bowl, bottle stopper, and hollow form I create begins as a raw material that I have selected myself.
I work primarily with burr wood—those chaotic, beautiful, knotty growths that give timber its wildest grain patterns. I often pair this with resin, not to hide the wood, but to highlight it. The resin fills the voids and cracks that nature left behind, creating a smooth, tactile surface where the organic and the modern flow seamlessly together.
Because of the nature of these materials, no two pieces are ever alike. Even if I tried to make two identical bowls, the grain of the burr or the swirl of the resin would dictate otherwise. That is the beauty of it. When you own a piece from Begat Woodcraft, you truly own the only one of its kind in existence.

Made to be Treasured
Whether you are a collector looking for that specific piece of "functional art" or someone searching for a meaningful gift, my goal remains the same: to create connection.
I make these pieces to be used and handled, not just looked at. I want that bottle stopper to be part of your Friday night ritual. I want that bowl to sit on your table for years to come. I prioritise sustainability, working with responsibly sourced burr wood and long-lasting materials so that these pieces can be treasured for a long time.
Join the Journey
This blog (and my newsletter, if you care to join) is where I will share a bit more of what happens behind the scenes. I’ll be showing you the process—the dust, the shavings, and the moments where a rough block of wood transforms into something polished and glass-like.
Thank you for stopping by. I invite you to take a look around the shop, explore the collection, and see what happens when real hands get to work on real art.
