A Fusion of Dense Australian Mallee Burr & Deep Pour Resin

Premium Hybrid Blanks for Handles. This listing is for one high-grade Mallee Burr & Resin Hybrid blank. Cast in our Yorkshire workshop, these blanks combine the incredible density and figure of Australian Mallee Burr with high-clarity deep pour resin.

The Material We have selected Australian Mallee Burr for its tight, swirling grain and natural "eyes." It is one of the densest timbers available, making it exceptionally durable for handled items.

  • The Resin: We use a premium Deep Pour Epoxy for these blanks. This low-viscosity formula allows for a slow, stress-free cure, resulting in a rock-hard material that cuts cleanly without the brittleness often found in faster setting resins.

  • The Colours: Available in a range of vibrant, pearlescent colours. Please select your preference from the menu.

Ideal Applications

Available in multiple sizes, these blanks are perfect for:

  • Tool Handles

  • Bottle Openers

  • Bespoke Pens - when cut down

  • Kitchen utensils

Specifications:

  • Material: Solid Australian Mallee Burr & Epoxy Resin
  • Casting Method: Atmospheric Deep Pour (High Clarity)

  • Condition: Rough sawn / Lightly planed face to show grain

Maker’s Technical Notes: Please Read Before Turning We want your project to be a success. As these blanks involve natural high-character wood and chemical resin bonds, please observe the following technical notes:

1. Surface Presentation: Product photography may show the blank wiped down with solvent/water to simulate the final finish. The item you receive will be rough-sawn or lightly planed and will appear matte/dull. This is normal.

2. Natural Variation: Unless listed as a specific unique item, photos are representative of the batch. Every blank is unique. The ratio of Burr-to-Resin varies naturally from piece to piece; some blanks may feature heavier wood density, while others may contain larger sections of resin.

3. The Nature of Burr Wood: We select timber for maximum character. By definition, Burr Wood contains chaotic grain, bark inclusions, and natural voids.

  • Inclusions: It is standard practice when turning high-grade burr to encounter small internal voids or bark pockets.

  • Recommendation: We advise having Thin and Medium CA Glue (or UV Resin) on hand to stabilize these natural features as you turn. This is not a defect; it is part of the discipline of turning burr.

4. Resin & Tooling: Whether Pressure Cast or Deep Pour, our resin is cured to a high hardness. We recommend using a carbide tool with negative rake tip to avoid chipping the resin.

5. Casting Method:

  • Large Blanks: Cast at 45-50 PSI to eliminate micro-bubbles.

  • Handle/Spindle Stock: Cast using High-Clarity Deep Pour resin for stress-free curing.
