A Celebration of Tactile Mappa Burr and Traditional Twice-Turned Craftsmanship
Hand-turned in our Yorkshire workshop, this striking wooden decorative vessel showcases the pale, chaotic beauty of natural mappa burr. The smooth, sweeping curves contrast wonderfully with the intricate clusters of the burr grain, creating a luxury wooden centrepiece that draws the eye and demands to be touched. Whether you are seeking organic home décor to elevate a room or looking for a meaningful hand turned heirloom gift for a loved one, this piece of sculptured burr wood adds a warm, natural elegance to any space.
This particular art vessel has a unique provenance, having been carefully 'twice-turned' to ensure its lasting beauty. It began its journey as a raw, 'green' (wet) piece of sustainably sourced mappa burr. It was rough-turned into a basic shape and then left to slowly air-dry and acclimatise for several months. Once the wood had fully settled and released its natural tensions, it was remounted on the lathe and meticulously hollowed out to its final, refined shape. This traditional process honours the material, creating a highly stable piece of artisan woodturning UK that will last for generations.
